Newspaper advertisements are reality...


In June an Account Manager at the company where I am doing an internship asked me the sizes of Newspaper ads. I didn’t tell him the sizes…

Why? 

Because I did not know that newspaper ads have any fixed size. I used to believe that the size of ad is according to the wish of the client/company but I was wrong, there are fixed sizes set by the Newspaper Publishing Companies.

An Account Manger is an Advertising Agency is not the person who works in finance, it’s the person who manages different accounts. Accounts here mean Clients. So an account manager is a person who manages different clients.

In Pakistan all the leading newspapers, Jang, The News, DAWN, Express etc have 8 columns in there newspaper. And the height of the page is 57 cm approx.    

                                      

An ad that covers different portions of a newspaper and have different sizes:

1) Full page: 57 x 8 Columns. 

An example of the full page advertisement is the ad of USAID below.    

















2) Half Page: 27cm x 4 Columns. 

An example of the half page advertisement is the ad by HMO below.


3) Quarter Page: 20 cm x 4 Columns. 

An example of the quarter page advertisement is the ad of Standard Chartered below.

Have you ever wondered why 'Headline' never change its palce?

Further the most important place for the NEWSPAPER Ad is the Front Page and there are some newspapers with different fixed sizes of ads reserved for the front page. We all know that the top portion of the front page is for the Title of newspaper, the centre part is for the HEADLINE. 

Headline never change its place…Never.

Jang, The News and Express offer half of their front page for ads (20cm x 8columns). Dawn whereas offers 15cm x 8 column for advertising. Quarter or Half page Ads can be printed inside the Dawn newspaper.

Learning about newspaper advertising was good but learning about just local newspaper was not enough so I logged on to Google and searched about Washington Newspaper and New York Times. Size of these newspapers and their ads are different.

WASHINGTON POST have some pages of 8 columns and some pages of 6 columns.

With a 20% market share in telecom sector and over 3 million 4G subscribers, Zong takes to the skies. Amber Arshad writes in Aurora that even though Zong has re-branded it self, its still a question whether it will be able to conquer new heights or it will drown.
