Banned Commercials- The New Attraction

This article will analyze two Pakistani commercials that were created by renowned creative agencies for local clients, but the commercials were banned by Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) for inappropriate content. In this world where women objectification is charismatic, at the same place patriarchial society doesn't allow any attack on the male figure.

ZONG- 4G

First Commercial that I will talk about it is of Zong's 4G Services. The TVC was launched in the first quarter on 2017, and was soon hit by PEMRA.

Zong's TVC showed a group of boys and girls playing cricket together and in the next scene, a ball is seen hitting a guy between his legs

IGLOO- Moments Bar

Second TVC was created by IGLOO, and featured its vanilla ice-cream, with a layer of chocolate. The expressions of the model and the way the product has been shown is inappropriate and seductive, as in a very subtle way it depicts immodest gestures.

According to a source the TVC was aired from 8th July, 2017 onwards and was immediately banned.

PEMRA said the commercial was not deemed appropriate for the Pakistani audiences. PEMRA also mentioned the commercial was against the norms of the society.

For an advertiser like IGLOO its a sad news because they hardly made any good ad, and when they did it got prohibited.

To be honest, I didn't notice any of these TVCs when they were airing on TV, but as soon as they got banned, everyone started talking about them including me.

Perhaps, this can be the strategy; first create an objectionable commercial, air it on TV, and when PEMRA bans it, make it viral on the web. Obviously in today's world it's difficult to get the attention and break the clutter, therefore these gim-micks are getting popular.
